MOVIGEAR® SNI System Components
SNI Controller
The SNI controller is intended for decentralized installation in the field. It enables control of
up to ten MOVIGEAR® units. The controller transfers the control information to the SNI controller
by means of Ethernet signals. The SNI controller is the interface between PLC and connected MOVIGEAR®
drive units.

|
The SNI controller controls the MOVIGEAR® drive units. In return, the PLC receives the
status information of the MOVIGEAR® drive units via the SNI controller.
The SNI controller distributes the data from the data buffer to the connected MOVIGEAR®
drive units accordingly. It collects the status information from the connected MOVIGEAR®
drive units and makes it available for the higher-level PLC.
Administration, parameter setting and diagnostics of the drive units is performed by using
the MOVIVISION® parameter setting and diagnostics tool.

MOVIGEAR® SNI
In the MOVIGEAR® SNI, the control information received from the SNI controller is evaluated and
the commands are translated into a corresponding movement. The status (e.g. ready for operation, velocity,
position, unit utilization, etc.) is transferred to the higher-level SNI controller as status information. The
address under which the MOVIGEAR® unit is known to the SNI controller is set in the unit via DIP switch.
If a unit is replaced, the identical address is set in the new one, so that the corresponding parameter set can
be automatically uploaded from the MOVIVISION® data base.

MOVIGEAR® SNI is characterized in particular by its novel installation and communication concept:
- Individual control of each MOVIGEAR®
- Reduction in the number of components
- Bus lines do not have to be routed in the field
- No risk of hidden faults in the bus cabling
- Reduced startup times
- Shorter project runtimes / lower project costs
